Caumont Art Centre
Housed inside the recently restored 18th Century mansion Hôtel de Caumont, the Caumont Art Centre is a gallery of art and culture. The building itself is a work of art; it features a heady mix of Regency and Louis XV architectural features, classic 18th Century-style gardens and a range of elegantly decorated amenities, such as Café Caumont.
Caumont Art Centre has been billed as “a place where one can discover and share art, music and dance with passion.” It more than lives up to this mission statement, as the Centre features a range of paintings, sculpture, musical performances, screenings and lectures which will allow you to explore France’s expansive artistic heritage.
Artistic exhibitions
The Centre also hosts two fine art exhibitions every year. These events explore the legacies of various outstanding artists throughout history, from the great masters of the past right through to the revolutionary contemporary artists of the modern day.
Caumont opened its inaugural exhibition, Canaletto, Rome – London – Venice. The triumph of light, on 6th May 2015. Scheduled to run until 13th September 2015, the event features a range of works by 18th Century Venetian artist Canaletto, whose exploration of light led to the creation of hypnotic landscape paintings. The showcase highlights Canaletto’s meticulous use of the ‘dark room’ in his work, a copy of which has been presented as part of the exhibition.
