If you’re staying at Benvengudo Hotel this September and you want to experience some authentic French culture, you should check out the Feria Du Riz.

Discover Arles

Benvengudo Hotel is located in the quaint village of Les Baux-de-Provence. When you stay with us, you’re perfectly situated to rent a car, hit the open road and explore everything the charming towns, villages and cities of Provence have to offer.

Take a half hour drive through the region and you’ll reach Arles. A stunning French tourist town, Arles has a number of historic attractions such as churches, museums and monuments that’ll provide you with a great day out. The town is also a centre of the French bullfighting scene; you can experience this unique tradition for yourself every September when the Feria du Riz takes over the streets of Arles.

Feria Du Riz

Established in 1965, Feria du Riz is Arles’ world famous bull fighting festival. Held midway through every September, it features a range of fairs, festivities and demonstrations which are free and open to all. It also showcases traditional French bull fighting, which sees matadors confronting the fearsome beasts on horseback to impress and delight the crowds.

The highlight of the Feria du Riz is the “bullfight goyesque” event that take place in Arles Arena every year. This contest is pageant-esque; typically it combines décor, fashion and music to create a true spectacle. Past goyesques have included the works of such famous designers as Christian Lacroix and Jean-Paul Formica.

The 2015 festival

The 2015 Feria du Riz looks as though it’s going to be an amazing event. Scheduled to take place between Friday 11th September and Sunday 13th September, the Festival will see legendary bull fighting figures such as Juan Bautista and Pablo Hermoso show us what they can do in the ring.

It will also host a series of additional events that you should take some time to check out whilst you’re in Arles. You should watch out for the free two-hour horse show which will be held in the Arena on the Saturday, starting at 9.30 pm. You’ll also be able to buy traditional goods including wine, organic vegetables and soaps from the many stalls that will be set up throughout Republic Square during the weekend.
